Timesheet Instructions
All BTR residents must submit timesheets for every week they are enrolled in the program. BTR collects timesheets for the purpose of state licensure and AmeriCorps program compliance. Residents are responsible for submitting timesheets in a complete and accurate manner. All timesheets must be signed and dated by the resident and his or her Site Director in blue or black ink.
Timesheet Requirements for State Licensure
For BTR to endorse a resident’s application for licensure, he or she must complete :
- A minimum of 300 regular education practicum hours
- A minimum of 150 special education practicum hours (for those intending to apply for a dual license in special education)
Timesheet Requirements for AmeriCorps
BTR residents are AmeriCorps members and are required to complete a minimum of 1700 hours of service to be considered as full-time members and to receive Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards. However, AmeriCorps has very strict rules regarding the proportion of hours spent in “service” than in “training.” In fact, no more than 20-percent of a resident’s total AmeriCorps hours can be training hours. [This is called the AmeriCorps 80-20 Rule]
| For example:
Let’s say that a resident completes at least 1360 service hours and no Now let’s say that this resident went above and beyond her minimum |
Which activities count toward AmeriCorps service hours?
Service activities include activities that aid your service to your host schools. For example, your regular education and special education practicum hours, school-based meetings, lesson planning, assessment, tutoring, or contacting students’ families all count as service hours. Even some of your homework assignments from BTR will count as planning-type service hours if they’re helping you improve your classroom service (ex. Creating a unit-plan as part of your content methods course counts as service hours).
Which activities count toward AmeriCorps training hours?
Training hours include time spent in one of BTR’s graduate-level courses.
Remember: AmeriCorps members may never engage in AmeriCorps prohibited activities during BTR service-time.
Timesheet To-Dos & Reminders
- Timesheets are done weekly – the week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday.
- Timesheets are required to be signed and dated by the Resident and the Site Director in blue or black ink only.
- Timesheets are due every Friday for the week ending in the previous Friday at Reflective Seminar. If a Resident must miss seminar, original timesheets must be mailed or delivered to the BPE office. No copies or faxes will be accepted.
- It is the Resident’s responsibility to make sure timesheets are turned in regularly. It is not the Site Director's job to chase Residents around for timesheets. Failure to turn in timesheets may result in a Resident not receiving an Education Award (for lack of hours).
- It is imperative that Residents include all time spent related to teaching. That includes all in-class time, planning, grading, meeting, talking with families, etc. Anything that is part of teaching counts as service.
